About Melissa

Melissa’s customized process includes your ideas, favorite pictures and family heirlooms as inspirations for designs that capture your one-of-a-kind look, going beyond the retail sameness of today’s home furnishings market. Whether your style is traditional, transitional, eclectic or modern, Melissa’s interiors are infused with character, comfort and timeless appeal.

Melissa apprenticed with leading design firms in the DC area and earned her BA in interior design from Marymount University in 1995. Prior to turning to her design career, she spent nearly a decade in the fast-paced world of television news, observing, listening and telling people’s stories for CNN.

A self-described people-person, Melissa reflects on that experience: “ In many ways, that’s what I do as a designer. I help my clients create a narrative for their homes which they can add to and enjoy every day.”

Founded in 1998, Melissa Broffman Interior Design is a full-scale residential design firm servicing the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. It is located in Arlington, Virginia and partners with leading architects, builders and seasoned craftsman.

Recognized as one of the areas top residential design firms, Melissa is honored to be on Modern Luxury DC Magazines 2022 & 2023 Luxe List for exceptional interior design and Virginia Living Magazines Top Of The Trades 2023-2022.  For well over a decade she has been a featured designer in Home & Design's Portfolio of 100 Top Designers in DC/MD/VA Region. She is a 12-time winner on Houzz, including in 2023 for Best Design & Service.   Her work has been published in Elle Decor, Home & Design and Arlington Magazine.

What Clients Say

It was a pleasure working with Melissa.

She quickly assessed what was needed to update and modernize our house while attending to my preferences and concerns. Melissa has extensive resources for fabrics, carpeting and wallpaper and an active list of quality contractors with whom she works. The project was expensive but the quality of the work and the final results were well worthit!   – Deborah P.
